Monocular

Monocular lensA monocular is a modified telescope used to magnify the images of distant objects by passing light through a series of lenses and prisms; the use of prisms results in a lightweight telescope. Volume and weight are less than half those of binoculars, making it easy to carry along.

They are used by the partially sighted in different situations i.e. for looking at a black board in a classroom or lecture or for looking at the screen at the cinema.

Fresnel

A fresnel lens is a special lens which magnifies and comes in many diffirent forms. It can also be found in the form of plastic sheets. Placing one of these sheets over a computer screen can instantly magnify it. It could also be used a reading aid for paper based material. Have a look at the video.
