A colleague of mine who uses the JAWS screenreader has been finding it difficult to use Office 2007, much preferring the layout of the previous version - Office 2003. The two pruducts are very different in the way the menus are presented, Office 2007 now using a menu ribbon instead of drop-downs. There is a solution - called Classic Menu for Office 2007. What this 'add-in' does is to give Office 2007 the same look as Office 2003. My colleague has installed it and absolutely loves it, finding it much easier to navigate with JAWS. Further to my last post. My screenreader using colleague has been experimenting with this 'add-in' and made the following observations. He says, " For anyone who has been struggling with the usability of the ribbon in Office 2007, here is a plug-in that adds in all the old menus of 2003 in Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint. You can turn off the ribbon altogether if you want. The only wrinkle is that the top menu items (File, Edit, View etc) aren't accessed with the old 2003 keyboard shortcuts (i.e. instead of Alt+F to pull down the File menu you have to press Alt+Q, f, 1). After that the old shortcuts for the menu items are there".
